Rate Contracts

The Contract Manager stores contracts that contain rates negotiated between clients and carriers.

You can view the rate contracts on the Contract Manager page.

  1. On the Contracts tab, view the list of contracts.

    Note

    You can select the Client drop-down arrow, and select a client to sort the contracts list.

  2. Select a contract in the list to view its details.

You can enter rate contract information manually in Corsair.

  1. Select New Contract.

  2. On the New Contract page, enter the contract information. See the "Rate Contract Field Descriptions" below for more information about the rate contract fields.

  3. Select Save Changes.

The following steps apply only when you're adding a new contract.

Section and Field

Description

Mileage Settings

To apply PC Miler settings to the rate contract

  1. Select Mileage Settings. The PC Miler Settings dialog box displays.

  2. Select a mileage provider.

  3. Select a PC Miler version.

  4. Select a route type.

    • Practical - The default route type. Describes distances and driving routes that a driver would normally take to minimize time and cost. Compares the trade-off between taking the most direct path and staying on major, high-quality highways.

    • Shortest - Describes distances and driving routes that a vehicle would take to minimize the total distance traveled while still following a reasonable route. A Shortest route may have a longer drive time than a Practical route.

    • Fastest - Uses the day of the week and time of day information that has been set for a route (these are optional settings for Fastest routing) to calculate the quickest route to the trip’s destination(s). The actual mileage may be longer than in a Practical route.

  5. Select the distance units, such as miles.

  6. Select Highway Only if you want to exclude all roads other than highways.

  7. Select Avoid Tolls if you want to exclude all toll roads.

  8. Select Save.

New Contract section

Name

Enter a name for the rate contract.

Effective Date

The effective date of the rate contract.

Expiration Date

The expiration date of the rate contract.

Rate Usage

Where and how the contract rate will be applied in Corsair:

  • RATE SHOP - Carrier rates relevant to the contract are displayed in the Rates section of an order or shipment. These carrier rates can be selected.

  • BENCHMARK - Carrier rates relevant to the contract are displayed above the Rates section of an order or shipment. These rates are "benchmarked" in that they're compared to some other rate source. These rates are also not selectable and are for reference purposes only.

  • COST MANAGEMENT BENCHMARK - Used for Gainshare for Cost Management.

  • FREIGHT ALLOWANCE BENCHMARK - Carrier rates relevant to the contract are displayed in the Rates section of an order or shipment. Related to the Discounted Tariff and Rate Per Unit rate strategies.

  • BENCHMARK - Carrier rates relevant to the contract are displayed in the Rates section of an order or shipment. These rates are available with a DAT commercial integration.

Note

You determine the source for each of these Rate Usage options when you select a Rate Strategy. See the Rate Strategy description below.

Rate Strategy

The source of the rates:

  • RATE_PER_UNIT - The rate is calculated based on units (such as pallets or miles). Typically for TL. When you select this option, the Rate Table option displays. See "Rate Table" below for more information.

  • DISCOUNTED_TARIFF - The rate is calculated according to the carrier's tariff. Exclusively for LTL. When you select this option, the Discount Table option displays.

  • PRIORITY1 - Priority1 is a rate provider. The rates are acquired via their API.

  • PROJECT44 - Project44 is a rate provider. The rates are acquired via their API. When you select this option, the Account Group Code option displays. It's required for Project 44's configuration.

  • PROJECT_44_VOLUME_LTL - Gets a non-contract rate quote from the carrier. This is basically like getting a spot quote for LTL.

  • CARRIER_DIRECT - Gets a rate quote from a carrier directly through its API.

  • CARRIER_DIRECT_VOLUME - Gets a non-contract rate quote from the carrier. This is basically like getting a spot quote for LTL.

  • SMC_CARRIER_APIS - SMC3 is a rate provider. These rates are acquired via their API.

  • DAT BENCHMARK - DAT Freight & Analytics provides market average rates.

Mileage Provider

Select your mileage provider.

Carrier

The carrier in the rate contract.

Mode

The transportation mode (such as LTL).

Service

The level of service offered by the carrier. The following are a few popular service levels:

  • Standard - The most common service, which means the carrier will transport the freight in a normal manner within the shipper's requested pickup and delivery date range. There isn't an urgency with the freight shipment.

  • Expedited - When the shipper wants the freight to be delivered as quickly as possible. Depending on the shipping distance, a carrier might utilize team driving to expedite the delivery.

  • Guaranteed - When the carrier promises delivery on a specific date and time range. In some cases, the carrier offers a partial or full refund to the shipper if the delivery is late.

Equipment Type

The type of vehicle transporting the contents of the shipment. Rates will display only for the equipment type that you select.

Note

If you don’t select an equipment type, rates will display for all available equipment types.

Transit Miles Per Day

The number of miles a carrier can typically cover in one transit day. 500 miles per day is the industry standard for calculating transit days. Typically applies to TL shipments.

Contact

The person to contact with questions about the rate contract.

Owner

The person who negotiated the terms of the rate contract. The contract contains their name.

Owner Name

The name of the organization that the owner represents.

Comments

Enter additional information or instructions relevant to the rate contract.

Audit Only

The rate doesn't display in the Rate Shop but in the internal rater and in the rate results.

Is Benchmark

A rate calculated in Corsair. It displays the rate contract name and the rate on the Other Rates tab in the Rate Shop.

Cost Management Benchmark

Enables gainshare for cost management for the rate contract.

Documents section

Add Document

Attach relevant documents, such as a PDF of the signed rate contract or an amendment to the original rate contract.

Lane Quotes

Lane quote tables containing the lane quotes you receive based on spot quotes from carriers.

Create a lane quote table

To create a lane quote table

  1. On the Contract Manager page, select the Lane Quotes tab. The list of lane quotes displays.

  2. Select New Lane Quote. The New Lane Quote page displays.

  3. Enter the lane quote information.

  4. Select Save Changes.

Discount Tables

Discount tables containing the tariff discounts you receive from carriers for LTL shipments.

Create a discount table

To create a discount table

  1. On the Contract Manager page, select the Discount Tables tab. The list of discount tables displays.

  2. Select New Discount Table. The New Discount Table page displays.

  3. Enter the discount table information, or upload a CSV file containing the discount table information.

  4. Select Save Changes.

Rate Tables

Rate tables containing rates from carriers.

Create a rate table

To create a rate table

  1. On the Contract Manager page, select the Rate Tables tab. The list of rate tables displays.

  2. Select New Rate Table. The New Rate Table page displays.

  3. Enter the rate table information, or upload a CSV file containing the rate table information.

  4. Select Save Changes.

Accessorial Tables

Accessorial tables containing accessorial charges from carriers.

Create an accessorial charge table

To create an accessorial charge table

  1. On the Contract Manager page, select the Accessorial Tables tab. The list of accessorial charge tables displays.

  2. Select New Accessorial Charge Table. The New Accessorial Charge Table page displays.

  3. Enter the accessorial table information, or upload a CSV file containing the accessorial table information.

  4. Select Save Changes.

Fuel Region Tables

Fuel region tables containing specific selections from https://www.eia.gov.

Create a fuel region table

To create a fuel region table

  1. On the Contract Manager page, select the Fuel Region Tables tab. The list of fuel region tables displays.

  2. Select New Fuel Region Table. The New Fuel Region Table page displays.

  3. Enter the fuel region table information, or upload a CSV file containing the fuel region table information.

  4. Select Save Changes.

Fuel Surcharge Tables

Fuel surcharge tables containing specific selections from https://www.eia.gov for USA Fuel Surcharges.

CAN fuel surcharges must be entered manually.

To create a fuel surcharge table

  1. On the Contract Manager page, select the Fuel Surcharge Tables tab. The list of fuel surcharge tables displays.

  2. Select one of the following tabs:

    • USA Fuel Surcharges

    • CAN Fuel Surcharges

  3. Select New Fuel Surcharge Table. The New Fuel Surcharge Table page displays.

  4. Enter the fuel surcharge table information, or upload a CSV file containing the fuel surcharge table information.

  5. Select Save Changes.

FAK Tables

FAK (Freight All Kinds) tables containing the NMFC freight classes along with any adjustments to those freight classes negotiated with the carrier. FAK tables are for LTL only.

  1. On the Contract Manager page, select the FAK Tables tab. The list of FAK tables displays.

  2. Select New FAK Table. The New FAK Table page displays.

  3. Enter the FAK table information, or upload a CSV file containing the FAK table information.

  4. Select Save Changes.

Uplift Tables

Uplift tables containing charges (margin) from the 3PL handling the shipment.

Create an uplift table

To create an uplift table

  1. On the Contract Manager page, select the Uplift Tables tab. The list of uplift tables displays.

  2. Select New Uplift Table. The New Uplift Table page displays.

  3. Enter the uplift table information, or upload a CSV file containing the uplift table information.

  4. Select Save Changes.

Exclusion Tables

Exclusion tables containing carriers excluded from displaying in the list of rate options. Exclusion tables are for LTL only.

  1. On the Contract Manager page, select the Exclusion Table tab. The list of exclusion tables displays.

  2. Select New Exclusion Table. The New Exclusion Table page displays.

  3. Enter the exclusion table information, or upload a CSV file containing the exclusion table information.

  4. Select Save Changes.

Add Share

The top domain in Corsair can share the rate contract with any of its subdomains.

  1. Select the rate contract in the list that you want to delete.

  2. At the bottom of the page, select Delete Contract.
